My first conception was the speakers were a bit light for their size. The box for the dual 5" was also a bit small, which probably caused the hollow bottom end. The satellite speakers are oversized for the sound they put out... It's genuinely for looks to match the sub. This said, I was not expecting much for the sound. I plugged it into my mp3 player and searched for a few dissimilar types of songs. I was genuinely suprised at how they sounded turned up. There wasn't much of any distortion compared from normal volume to max. This said, the low end was a tiny hollow and overdone. It was like listening to the the bass speaker that could, but probably shouldn't have. I turned down the two bottom frequencies on my Eq and it helped the lower end not sound overdriven. As far as sound quality, I got what I expected. My normal listening is between a pair of Cerwin Vega Ls-15's, Polk bookshelf speakers, and a Sony Dav-Is10 system. I usually go for capability over price, but I conception I'd try something a tiny off the beaten path. My biggest disappointment with the system is the length of the rca cables from the speakers to the sub. They are a incorporate feet shorter than most any small system I've ever had. If you are going to have the sub off to one side without a direct path for the cable, you might find the farther side coming up a tiny short. This system is not for the audiophile, the bass lover, or the consumer expecting some reduction sound miracle in a box, but I'm happy with what I got for the money spent. They serve the purpose I bought them for without spending too much on them. I would recomend them to a friend if I conception it matched what they were looking for. As far as others having issues with not having sound, I might have a guess where the issue is. It comes with one of the cheapest 3.5mm to stereo rca cables I've ever used, and I've noticed it can be finicky when I move my mp3 player around. I'm going to see if using a good cable there helps aleviate issues there. One other thing I miss from my last system is having a power button on the wired remote. There is a mute button but I have the sub in an out of reach area, so I added a "switch" to the power cable instead.
