Creative lost a customer : Creative Inspire T6160 5.1 Multimedia Speaker System
I purchased the set after listening to the T3130 system, which has the same design. I had owned the Logitech X-540 system and returned it because of noticeable hiss and hum at low volumes. The matrix button only made the issues worse.
This is a basic surround sound system, meaning whatever you are playing, sound is sent to all 5 speakers. This is also know as all channel stereo in home theater systems.
This is not a Dolby, THX, or DTS system. Buyers looking for those types of system need to look for any of those 3 in the specifications or the product description before making a purchasing decision if they want to play their DVD's, blu-ray or games with those respective formats.
This system can play surround(all channel) without a dedicated sound card. It does what it advertises. It's siimiliar to using "all channel stereo" on your home theater system. In order to do so you need either your computer's built in sound card, a dedicated internal or external sound card, or either of the following 2 components.

Pros - Cost is much more inexpensive than Logitech. The sound is good throughout different ranges. I tried classic jazz, vocal standards, trance, hip-hop, pop, and classical. The bass seems tight and allows for some feel without sounding loose or muddy. Sound processing equipment seems very sturdy and of good quality. The subwoofer is very sturdy and does not seem cheap. It feels as heavy as my Onkyo sub. The system is easy to setup
Cons - The physical build quality of the design seems cheap and the cloth covers are not attractive and are not removeable. The sound control pod is plastic and feels cheap. It seems as if the design of the control pod was an afterthought and not fully implemented with the deisgn of the rest of the system. The center channel speaker does not look well on its side. Without a a soundcard or connection options listed above, you will only get sound from the front channel speakers and subwoofer.
As a Mac Pro user their are workarounds. You can purchase an external soundcard from Creative. I'm currently in the process of buying a Creative PCi-e X-Fi Xtreme. I plan on using hackintosh methods and Apple XCode's AU labs software to get the whole thing to work. If not I will default to the original method of basic surround or buy an external sound card.
I will update once I get to fully try the Logitech console adapter and the Creative sound card option!
